He worked in almost every bar we went to. “Don’t you think the barman looks like Matt Dillon?” you said. To me they all looked like different barmen, none of them like Matt Dillon. But maybe I just couldn’t remember what Matt Dillon looked like. We’d go to a bar in another part of town and there he’d be again, the barman you said looked like Matt Dillon. Whether the same barman or a different barman I can’t be sure. It was a long time ago, At least ten years We were all much younger then, of course. It was a long time ago, At least ten years, Fifteen, maybe even more... We were all much younger then, of course. I don’t remember if Matt Dillon was a good barman. The more we drank the more he began to look to me like Matt Dillon. Or the Matt Dillon in my mind began to look more like the barman working in whatever bar we were in. We drank our drinks while he worked on looking more like Matt Dillon to me. I imagine somewhere there had been an advertisement: “Barman required for regular bar work. Experience unnecessary. Must resemble Matt Dillon.” There may have been a number of successful applicants. We were all much younger then, of course. “We were all much younger then, of course.” Don’t you think the barman looks like Matt Dillon? “The barman looks like Matt Dillon.”
